A storm has struck New Orleans, a place densely populated with African Americans. Dean has now made the statement that “race, age and class were primary factors in those who suffered and died as a result of hurricane Katrina.” Is this true? No. Some people are getting too critical of Bush. According to Jacob Weisberg in his article The Imperfect Storm, in 2000, Bush received only 8% of Black Vote and in 2004 he received 11%. Jacob Weishberb also states that New Orleans in 67% African American He uses this fact to say that Bush doesn’t care because that’s just not were the votes are. If Bush didn’t care, race, class and age would matter in this event. According to Donations for Hurricane Recovery Pass ,$1-Billion By Nicole Lewis and Nicole Wallace “American charities have raised $1.06-billion” It also states how our president requested former president Bush and Clinton to start a relief fund that has raised $100-million so far. President Bush quotes after the hurricane “…tonight I also offer this pledge of the American people: Throughout the area hit by the hurricane, we will do what it takes, we will stay as long as it takes, to help citizens rebuild their communities and their lives. And all who question the future of the Crescent City need to know there is no way to imagine America without New Orleans, and this great city will rise again.” It doesn’t matter, race, class and age, we are Americans! It doesn’t matter now because the poles have been taken and Bush has won. If anyone believes in Deans statement that race, age and class does matter in this, he has succeeded in weakening America by raising disrespect for our leader President Bush.
